It really works but not with all games
Let me preface that my goal was not to test it for mining but for classic Gaming/3D rendering use.
I must say that with modern games it works great by mounting my NVidia RTX 2080 Super Founders on it connected to a Gigabyte B550i motherboard via USB 3 cable.
Doom Eternal in QHD at Ultra settings holds a stable 70 FPS with no problem.
Unfortunately with older games like “Darksiders 2 Deathinitive Edition” I get a fluctuating framerate between 25-30 fps. This is probably a driver problem.
As for rendering, both the Eevee real-time engine and Blender’s offline Cycles engine see the video card and work great.
